The Federal Government's "intervention" is nothing less than an invasion of Aboriginal lands.

A desperate grab for the mineral wealth of those lands, which Aboriginal people had been previously granted the rights to under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act.

Aboriginal Australians, who live in Aboriginal administered communities have had their rights to self determination swept aside at the stroke of a pen, by a desperate Government, with the passing of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act Amendment Bill, 2006.

The Liberal Party, under John Howard's leadership, has been orchestrating the need for such a militant take over for the last eleven years. Often with blatant contempt for the rulings and recommendations of the High Court Of Australia.

Our current Labor Government needs to immediately reinstate the rights of Aboriginal Australians, and find more equitable means to deliver the services required, and taken for granted by most Australians, to assist Aboriginal Australians in their endeavor to raise their standard of living to a level that most of us take for granted.

This is how the people of Elcho Island feel.
