I have been a smoker of the most feared plant in Australia since the 1970s and Goverments in different states usually have a fairly tolerant approach(except the NT) to its sale and use.Since last June 2007 my usual dealer and 2 others that i used to buy from have given up selling marijuana to deal only in ice and other powder forms as there is more money in it and the Law Enforcement Agencies leave them alone, so they tell me. Can anyone give me an answer as to why the Law Enforcement Agencies would leave the dealers of ice and other manufactured street drugs alone that are the cause of some of the most serious crimes in society and the sellers of a weed get locked away and the key thrown? Some time ago a transport driver was busted with a search warrant for numerous kilos of marijuana but the truck travelling in front carrying many more kilos of methamphetamines went "undetected", if this isnt obvious as to what is going on here i dont know what is.Maybe its time for our Police Commisioner Paul White to retire or step down for someone who has the intestinal fortitude to tackle the hard drugs peddlers and their supporters. Here we have a weed that no-one has ever overdosed on (health issues) nor is there any evidence produced by the Governments that the effects of marijuana cause or create major crime(ie murder, armed robbery ect),I have a full-time job and I have never accrued a conviction of any kind, nor have i had the desire to commit any crimes for that matter, whilst under the influence of marijuana. The politicians and Law Enforcement Agencies clearly have everything wrong here, that is unless the production and sale of ice and other powder forms that they turn a "blind eye" to, work to their enhancement for political/economical and justice gains.I am clearly not a speed user nor do i intend to use anything other than marijuana for my recreational purposes, however it has now come to a point where, due to this drought via ignorant and mindless politicians and immoral/corrupt Law Enforcement Agencies we as a collective society need to "rearrange" the way our local members think towards prohibition. If marijuana was to be legalised to a point where we could grow(like tolerant states) a plant or two for our own personal use without being imprisoned i feel that the desire to use the much harder drugs wouldnt be there. Our mindless politicians and Law Enforcement Agencies have this false belief that they will stamp out ALL drugs but whats clearly happening here us that they are using "a garden hose to put out the bushfire" and sending the hard drug dealers further underground and they are using our hard earned tax money to try and prove to us that we need protection from ourselves using prohibition.

I bet he could name a few in the chain of command, but won't.!

 When the story of the

When the story of the events in NSW, referred to in the previous comment, hit the NT News I had to laugh a little.

Then responded with the following letter to the editor ;-

The Network Against Prohibition has long claimed that one of the least
desirable aspects and outcomes of the prohibition of a variety of
recreational drugs, is the ever present temptation and possibility for
police corruption.

What more glaring example of this truth do we need than the recent bombshell from NSW.

The only way this Government can have any control over the recreational drug industry is to take control of it.

Simply making selected drugs illegal is a pathetic attempt at a simple solution to an issue that is out of their control.

It, quite simply, is not working.

The use of recreational drugs, including alcohol, should be a health and education issue, not a law and order issue.

The best our police can ever hope to achieve is to monitor the trade, and as we have seen, occasionally cash in on it.

Our kids deserve to be properly educated, not with hysterical propaganda, on the pros and cons of drug usage (including
alcohol) and the consequences of over indulgence.

If we had access to a variety of Government approved, pharmaceutically
clean forms of the preferred alternatives to alcohol, rather than
having to seek out the current contaminated backyard options, we would
likely see a great reduction in drug related crime and mental health
problems.

The budget to deal with education for all, and the
health issues of the few who misuse drugs, would be far less than the
current budget for the persecution of responsible users.

The great benefits to our economy are immeasurable.
